This Privacy Policy explains how A & A Design Inc. (“A & A Design,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the FirstBorn iOS app (the “App”). FirstBorn is a wellness and educational tool that supports men in tracking everyday habits during preconception. It is intended only for adults aged 18 and over. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
The App is published by A & A Design Inc., a Delaware corporation with a mailing address at 10100 Ormond Rd, Potomac, MD 20854, USA. For the information you enter and the Apple Health information the App reads, FirstBorn works entirely on your device and we have no access to it. We act as a data controller for the limited analytics and diagnostics described in Section 4 and for correspondence you choose to send us. You can reach us at alex@designswithaa.com.
FirstBorn is built around on-device storage. The information below is kept locally on your iPhone and is not transmitted to us or stored on our servers:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Profile | Age (birth month/year), height, weight, BMI or body-fat % if you provide it, body type, and the title you choose. |
| Lifestyle & habits | Alcohol, nicotine, cannabis and heat-exposure habits; intimacy/ejaculation frequency; supplements; commitments; and any blackout or risk-window plans you create. |
| Medication notes | Self-reported items such as finasteride or SSRIs, surfaced only as a “discuss with your doctor” advisory. |
| Daily logs | Per-day sleep, exercise, steps, alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, heat, supplements, stress and hydration, plus your streak and progress. |
| Intimacy & conception logs | Conception-attempt and solo (masturbation) entries: counts, positions, items used, per-encounter medication, an optional self-rating, a protected/withdrawal flag, and your notes. |
| Partner cycle (optional) | If you choose to track timing, the partner’s reported last-period date(s), cycle length and period length, used only to show estimated timing. See Section 8. |
Because this data is stored locally, it is included in your own device backups. If you use iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup, your iPhone’s backup — which is controlled by you and encrypted by Apple — may contain the App’s data so you can restore it on a new device. FirstBorn itself does not use iCloud or CloudKit to store or sync your entries.
If you add the FirstBorn widget, the App also keeps a limited readiness snapshot in its private App Group container so the widget can display your score, trajectory, day number, streak, certification state and weakest factor. This remains on your device and is removed by Erase All Data.
With your permission, FirstBorn reads the following from Apple Health to auto-fill supported entries in your daily habit log: sleep, exercise time, active energy, step count, and workouts. This access is read-only — FirstBorn does not write any data to Apple Health. Health data is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us. You control this permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health, and you can use the App with manual logging instead.
Information obtained through Apple Health is used only to support the App’s features. We never use it for advertising or marketing, and we never share it with third parties or include it in analytics.
If you choose Share app analytics in Settings, we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used so we can improve it. Analytics is off before Firebase Analytics starts collecting on a new install. Although we do not ask for your name or create an account, analytics data is pseudonymous rather than fully anonymous because it uses app and device identifiers. When enabled, Google may collect:
Separately, Google’s bundled data-transport software may send limited delivery and cache-health diagnostics used to monitor the reliability of that software, including when the analytics-event setting is off. We do not use Firebase Crashlytics or Firebase Performance Monitoring in this version of the App.
This information is processed by Google as our service provider and as described in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation and the Google Privacy Policy. We require service providers that receive App data to provide the same or equal protection described in this Policy and required by applicable App Store rules. We do not use Firebase for advertising, do not enable ad personalization, and do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. You can decline or withdraw consent for analytics events through the setting (see Sections 11 and 13).
All features in the current launch version are included with the App Store download. No subscription or in-app purchase is required. A future version may offer optional auto-renewing subscriptions through Apple’s in-app purchase system. If purchases are offered, they will be clearly identified before purchase, the App will use StoreKit on your device to recognize access, and Apple’s handling of the purchase will be governed by Apple’s privacy policy. We do not receive or store your payment-card details.
We use information to operate the App’s on-device features (habit reflections, streaks, reminders, and calendar estimates); understand aggregate usage and improve the App when you choose to enable analytics; diagnose technical problems; and comply with legal obligations. If a future version offers subscriptions, StoreKit may also recognize active access on your device. On-device information is used by the App on your device to provide its features; we do not access it.
If you email us for support or a privacy request, we receive the email address, message content and technical details you choose to provide. We use that information only to answer the request, keep reasonable business records and meet legal obligations. Please do not include intimate, health or other sensitive entries in support messages.
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The only parties involved are:
We do not use data brokers and do not share your information with advertisers.
FirstBorn can create shareable milestone or partner-update images and may offer an export of your Chronicle. These items are created on your device. If you choose to share one, Apple’s share sheet sends it to the person, app, or service you select, subject to that recipient’s privacy practices. We do not automatically share these items and do not receive a copy.
FirstBorn lets you optionally record a partner’s menstrual-cycle dates to estimate fertile-window timing for your own planning. This information is about another person. You should enter it only with that person’s knowledge and permission. Like your other entries, it is stored on your device, is not transmitted to us, and is never included in analytics. The estimates are calendar-based approximations, not detection, and are not medical advice.
If you enable reminders, FirstBorn schedules them locally on your device using iOS notifications. These reminders are generated on your iPhone and are not sent through our servers or any third party. You can turn them off in the App or in iOS Settings.
Because your entries are stored on your device, they remain until you remove them with Settings → Erase All Data or delete the App (which removes the App’s on-device data; copies in your own backups are controlled by you). We do not retain your logs because we never receive them. We retain user-level analytics event data for no longer than 14 months, after which deletion is initiated; aggregate reports that no longer identify an app instance may be retained longer. If you email us, we keep that correspondence only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping, ordinarily no longer than two years after the matter is closed unless law requires longer.
Your information is stored in the App’s private on-device container (and, for the widget snapshot, its private App Group container) and protected by iOS Data Protection, which encrypts device storage when you set a passcode. You can additionally lock the intimacy log behind Face ID and an optional 4-digit passcode; that passcode is stored only as a salted, hashed value in the device Keychain (kept on your device, not synced), and the log is erased after ten consecutive incorrect attempts. Information sent off your device — optional analytics to Google, user-directed shares, support email, and, only if offered in a future version, purchases to Apple — uses the security of the selected service, including encrypted connections where the service supports them. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we design FirstBorn to keep your most sensitive information on your device and out of our hands.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR / UK GDPR applies. The data controller for analytics and correspondence is A & A Design Inc. Our legal bases are: consent for optional analytics (which you can withdraw at any time); performance of a contract where processing is necessary to provide the App or respond to a service request; and legitimate interests for security, support, legal compliance and improving the App where those interests are not overridden by your rights. For the information that stays on your device, we are not able to access it.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise these rights for analytics data, contact alex@designswithaa.com. Most of your information can be removed directly using Erase All Data.
The App automatically calculates readiness scores, timing estimates and recommendations on your device from the information you provide and the general model described in the App. These outputs are educational, do not involve human review, and do not produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Depending on your state (including California, and states such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and Washington), you may have rights to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, and to opt out of its sale or of targeted advertising. We do not sell your personal information, do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and do not use it for targeted advertising. We treat health and reproductive information as sensitive and keep it on your device. To make a request about analytics data, contact alex@designswithaa.com; you can delete your on-device information at any time using Erase All Data. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
For purposes of Washington’s My Health My Data Act, the consumer health data the App processes on your device includes the profile, health, habit, medication, intimacy, conception, partner-cycle and Apple Health categories described in Sections 2 and 3. The sources are you and, only with your permission, Apple Health. The App processes this data to provide the local scores, estimates, logs, reminders, security and other features you request. We do not receive, sell, or share this consumer health data with third parties. A disclosure occurs only if you deliberately use an Apple share sheet or export and choose a recipient. You can access and correct data in the App, withdraw Apple Health permission in iOS Settings, and delete local data using Erase All Data. You may also contact us to exercise or appeal a decision about your rights.
We are based in the United States, and our analytics provider (Google) processes data in the United States and other countries. Where analytics data is transferred from the EEA or UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Your on-device information is not transferred by us.
FirstBorn is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has used the App, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide prominent notice in the App. If a change requires new consent, we will ask for it before the new collection or use begins.
